We recently had to replace a
Little Giant Pump that had been running solid for a few years here at the Service Villa corporate offices. Although the little giant pump withstood the test of time it did not perform to our expectations when it came to noise level.
Since this pump was in our reception area we decided to venture out and look for a pump that was as reliable as the little giant, but was silent enough where it would not bother our visitors.
Enter the blue line velocity pump. This has to be the most quiet running pump we have never heard... It operates at less than 30db, with the cabinet closed we couldn't even hear the pump. Had we not seen the return flow from the pump in the tank would, we barely realize it was even on.
Additionally, the pump is as strong, if not stronger, than our previous little giant. Granted the little giant was old and frail when we replaced it.
The Velocity Series water pumps are also highly energy efficient. The Pumps feature seal-less/leak-proof designs and are maintenance free. They are rated for temperatures up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and line pressures up to 50 psi. Our particular pump, the T3, comes equipped with 3/4" male NPT threaded inlet and outlet, and is rated at 800 gph. All velocity pumps come with a 6' power cord which should be more than enough for most aquarium settings.
One of the best features we found was the auto shut off. If the pump reaches its thermal limit or should you run dry, the pump will shut off and avoid costly repairs. The pump retails a little over $150 dollars, but is well worth the difference in price if you need the peace and quiet.
Find Blueline Velocity pumps here. One thing to note is that the pump runs a little warm. We noticed a little increase in temperature when compared to the little giant.
