Tile - The world's largest lost and found
Do you have a problem loosing stuff? We got a neat little product that can help you find all your lost items. I'm dating myself here but many of you can remember the key chain that you whistle at, and it would beep to let you know where it was? The tile is a newer more robust version of this device. The tile is a small electronic device that uses bluetooth technology to help you find items you have misplaced or have been stolen. The tile can be placed on a set of keys, a purse, laptop bag, or any other object you may wish to retrieve if lost. You will need an iOS device with the tile app installed. The Tile app will let you find your device by telling you if you are getting closer or further from your device.

You also have an option to make the device beep so you can find it by sound. I guess it's kind of like playing Marco Polo with your lost items. The tile has a maximum range of 150 feet between it and your iOS device with the tile app installed.

You may be asking yourself, well what happens if I lose the item and I am farther away, or in a different location altogether? Well that's where the interesting part comes in. The tile can also communicate using any iOS device that has the tile app installed, the more tile users there are the better your chances are at locating your device.

Let's just say for example that you lose your purse or wallet in a mall. If you are on the other side of the mall the bluetooth on your phone wont be able to track it, at this point all the iOS devices in the mall within 150 feet of your object will talk to the tile servers and get you an update on location. It's an interesting concept, but it will require lots of tile users to give you good chances at recovering your device.

One cool feature is that you can share the tile with friends so that they can also have access to help find your wallet in the mall. You can split up in the mall and theoretically cover a good area.

One thing to note is that the tile will not work with android devices at the moment. The tile is also limited in that until the population of tile users grow, the chances of finding your objects aren't that great if it was stolen and not near you. The tiles will be sold towards the end of 2013 and will cost about $18 each. The tiles internal battery lasts about 1 year and is not replaceable.
